Popular micro-blogging site (extremely popular with Martha Stewart at least), in a move that personally reminds me of Yahoo!, has announced that it has redesigned its front page and is trying it out on new users. Regular Twitter users on the other hand will not get to see the new front page when they visit Twitter.com. They can see how the redesigned Twitter page looks like one other way: by scrolling down to the bottom of this article.

“Helping people access Twitter in more relevant and useful ways upon first introduction lowers the barrier to accessing the value Twitter has to offer and presents the service more consistently with how it has evolved. Twitter began as a rudimentary social tool based on the concept of status messages but together with those who use it every day, the service has taught us what it wants to be. From features invented by users to applications built on the platform, we're still discovering potential. Twitter has moved from simple social networking into a new kind of communication and a valuable source of timely information,” explained co-founder and Creative Director of Twitter, Biz Stone.

If instead of checking out the image of the redesigned Twitter home page at the bottom, you decided to actually set up a new account – and you stuck with it – then you should know that users who recently joined the site have been experiencing some problems. More specifically, recent Twitterers have reported losing their followers and an inability to be followed. Some reported seeing empty followers lists and zeroed follower counts. Twitter said it is currently looking into this issue and hopes to release a fix as soon as possible.

For existing Twitter users, the front page remains the same as always, but one thing has changed: the word “tweet” has officially made its way to Twitter. In the upper right hand corner of the window, instead of “Updates,” you will see “Tweets.”
