New Android G1 Location App: WHERE
Mobile software developer uLocate has put out a new application for the Android powered G1 smartphone called WHERE that is location aware and puts the functionality of several Android widgets at your disposal. The main goal of this Android app is to let you know exactly what you can find in the area around you – things like gas stations or restaurants for example.
“WHERE™ is a location-based application chock-full of widgets that deliver essential information about what's around you. Are you looking for the hottest restaurants, jonesing for your next coffee fix, or running dangerously low on gas and need a cheap fill-up? Maybe you just want to connect with some friends. Whatever you're after, WHERE delivers the best in local information from Eventful, Yelp, GasBuddy, Zipcar, ShopLocal, Starbucks, Buddy Beacon® and more,” explains uLocate.
Here is a detailed list of carriers that provide WHERE: Alltel, AT&T, Boost, Helio, metroPCS, Sprint and Virgin. The G1 Android does not monopolize WHERE, it is also available for other smartphone devices: iPhone, Blackberry and Nokia.
Previously I’ve mentioned that WHERE provides the functionality of several widgets, and here is a list of these widgets: Local, Directions, Saved Places, Location notes, Weather, Ski Report, Earthquake!, World largest, Fore!, Roadside help, State Parks, Winery finder, Rent a car, Brewery finder, Nexrad Radar. The list of widgets, according to WHERE’s developers, is only going to increase as time goes by.
Since it was launched, WHERE has been downloaded by more than 16,000 users, has received 858 rating of mare than 4.5 stars, and ascended to number 1 in the Android App Store (in the travel category). Keep in mind that WHERE will set you back $2.99, but for that amount of money uLocate guarantees that you will have access to all the widgets they provide – even when that number will be in the hundreds.
If you would like to get WHERE for the Android, iPhone, and Nokia smartphone, a download location is available here.
