Every autumn, just like clockwork, the German software developers from Nero bring out a new version of their renowned software product. This year they have released Nero 9.0.9.4c, a version that includes all the goodies we have come to expect from Nero.

Here are some of the features that Nero 9 has to offer:
Improved Nero StartSmart
Nero StartSmart used to be the equivalent of "place a shortcut on my desktop"; but now it has evolved into something that can better be described as a "main control console". By simply using StartSmart the user can access all the functions Nero 9 has to offer. It is also a great help to Nero newbies, users that are just now starting to use Nero.

Enhanced format/codec support
Nero 9 now supports FLAC (short for Free Lossless Audio Codec), .mkv files (better known as Matoska), and AVCHD.

Ad Spotter
If you want a commercial free TV recording, the Ad Spotter feature will pinpoint the commercials and eliminate them from said recording.

Music Grabber
Let's say that you are watching a video clip and you really like the soundtrack. Thanks to the Music Grabber feature you can rip it and
listen to it at your convenience.

Movie Wizard
This feature can be used to edit home videos. It includes predefined transition effects and music that you can combine with your wedding video, vacation video, and so on.

Nero Live
If your PC has an integrated TV tuner, then you can watch all your favorite TV shows with Nero Live.

Auto Backup
If you are willing to part with some cash, then Nero provides you with the option of storing your back-up files on their servers. This option is preferable to storing your valuable data on accident-prone HDDs, CDs and DVDs.

If you want to purchase Nero from a local PC shop, then you must be ready to part with about $100. For this amount of cash you will get a box set containing all the necessary bits and pieces to install and run Nero 9 on your system. But if price is an issue, you could get the same product online, for about $80.

Upgrading from version 8 to version 9 will set you back $60.
