NASA collaborated with Rovio Entertainment to include educational content into the space-themed version of Angry Birds, Angry Birds Space. Solar System, the latest episode/update for Angry Birds Space, features 15 new educational levels so you can uncover fun facts about the Solar System by playing Angry Birds Space.

“We have spent time defining our approach to learning and strongly believe that learning is fun when you love what you do, when it’s fun to fail, when you feel intrinsically motivated and when you experience flow. Well-designed games are strong in all of those four fields by default, thus offering a next generation platform for outstanding learning experiences,” said Sanna Lukander, VP Learning, Rovio Entertainment.

Angry Birds Space, the space-themed version of Angry Birds, has recently been updated. The new Solar System update introduces 15 new levels but mind you, these are 15 educational levels created in collaboration with none other than NASA.

Here are the educational bits you can expect to get from the new Solar System episode:
  • Each level presents a planet, a comet or a satellite from our very own Solar System.
  • Fascinating trivia tidbits about the Solar System.
  • Watch videos about space directly in the game.
  • Direct links to NASA’s website so you can learn more about space.

“We’re excited to collaborate with Rovio on this largest update ever to Angry Birds Space. Everyone who plays will find surprises that take you to more information about our missions of discovery and exploration in our solar system and beyond,” said David S. Weaver, associate administrator for communications at NASA Headquarters in Washington. “It comes as NASA is about to complete the first-ever assessment of our solar system with the arrival of New Horizons at Pluto July 14.”

To play the new 15 levels included in the Solar System episode, you must get the latest Angry Birds Space release.
