Mozilla, the nonprofit organization behind the Firefox web browser, and Microsoft, the Redmond-based software giant behind the Bing “decision engine”, have made an interesting announcement recently. The two organizations announced that they made available a customized version of Firefox that puts Microsoft’s Bing front and center.

Firefox with Bing, the name of the customized web browser, makes Bing the default search engine in the search box and AwesomeBar and makes Bing.com the default home page. Now that Firefox with Bing is out, it means that there are about 20 customized versions out there.

If you’re not on Firefox already, you can get Firefox with Bing here.
If you’re already on Firefox, you can get the same functionality Firefox with Bing has to offer by installing the Bing Search for Firefox Add-on.

“Now Firefox users who are Bing enthusiasts can use Firefox with Bing to use the Web the way they want without having to take extra steps to navigate or customize their settings to Bing,” said Bing’s Tor Steiner. “We are excited to make it even easier for members of the Mozilla Firefox community to use Bing,” he added.

I mentioned above that you could get Firefox with Bing if you’re not on Firefox already. Why wouldn’t you be on Firefox? Perhaps you’re a fan of Microsoft’s products and you’re on Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) instead. You will be glad then to find out that IE9’s market share in the US is growing.

Director of Internet Explorer Marketing, Roger Capriotti, announced that IE9 reached a market share of 35% on Windows 7 in the US. This means that out of all the Windows 7 users in the US, 35% of them are using Microsoft’s IE9 web browser. If IE9’s market share continues to increase, it will become the leading modern browser on Windows 7.
