Back in May we announced that Mozilla released a new program meant to help people transition from using the web to making the web. The name of that program is Mozilla Webmaker and as part of it millions of people from all corners of the world will be helped to better understand the web and they will be provided with the tools they need to take greater control of their online lives. As Mozilla put it, the program will teach people to “make, learn and play using the open building blocks of the web.”

Mozilla said that as part of the Webmaker program, new tools will be released to the masses. Thimble is one of those tools.

On Monday, June 18th, Mozilla presented the new Thimble app to the world and touted the fact that that this new tool helps you create and share your own website with others. Alongside the release of Thumble, Mozilla also rolled out a new website for the aforementioned Webmaker program – you can check it out at webmaker.org.

Here is how Mozilla, the non-profit organization behind the Firefox browser, presented the new Thimble tool:
“Thimble is webmaking made easy. It’s an intuitive visual editor that lets you write and edit HTML right in your browser, preview and correct your work, and then publish and share fully functional web pages with a single click. Thimble removes many of the barriers for novice users trying to learn code, and includes a series of starter projects and templates to help anyone get started quickly.”

I remind you that this weekend, on the 23rd of June, the Summer Code Party begins with a Global Weekend of Code. Marking the start of the Webmaker program, this is a massive learning campaign that runs all summer long. Mozilla explained that community members from around the world already created more than 330 Sumer Code Party events.
