The news keeps on coming from Mozilla Labs. Following the announcement of the Open Web Tools Directory that centralizes open web development sources and the announcement that Ubiquity 0.5 has been released but will not be automatically pushed out, comes the news that Firefox Personas has been enhanced and that Warner Bros put out 4 new Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Personas.

Personas is a prototype extension for Firefox that allows the user to customize the way the browser looks by offering said user a wide selection of artist created designs (or skins). According to the Mozilla Labs team, since Personas has been rolled out it was downloaded about 6 million times; during the same time the designs gallery has reached and exceeded the 17,000 mark. As you can see, Firefox Personas is quite a popular concept that stands to become even more popular now that it has been enhanced to include new features.

“We are excited to announce two new features to the online gallery: search and favorites. Both of these are important not only because they help make the Personas experience stronger, but also because their release was a collaborative effort within the Personas community. With the community’s feedback and support, we were able to make the product stronger,” explained Toby Elliott, Myk Melez, Ryan Doherty, and Suneel Gupta on behalf of the Personas development team.

And as if that wasn’t enough to spur your interest, Mozilla Labs also announced the introduction of a new category to Firefox Personas – Film. In the Film category you can find 4 brand new Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Personas, courtesy of Warner Bros (the movie premiers July the 15th).

Toby Elliott, Myk Melez, Ryan Doherty, and Suneel Gupta again: “Over the past three months the community gallery has welcomed nearly 17,000 designs, including art from popular brands like Greenpeace, BCBG, All American Rejects, No Doubt, and the White Sox. Today, the Personas gallery launches a “Film” category with designs from the upcoming release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”
