Microsoft and Samsung have recently announced that they expanded their global partnership with the goal of making Microsoft services and apps available to more of Samsung’s customers.

This means that Samsung will pre-install Microsoft services and apps on some of the Android devices it has to offer. And more to the point…

The New Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

Since Samsung already presented the new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, this may not come as a surprise. As part of the global partnership between Microsoft and Samsung, Microsoft’s OneNote, OneDrive and Skype will come pre-installed on the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

OneDrive will offer 115GB of storage space to Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge customers (15GB by default, 100GB additional cloud storage for 2 years).

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will be available globally starting from April 10, 2015.

Select Android-powered Tablets

Samsung wants to pre-install Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive, and Skype on select Android tablets in the first half of 2015.

Samsung Devices for Businesses

Access to three versions of Office 365 (Business, Business Premium, and Enterprise) will be offered to businesses that purchase Samsung devices via the company’s business-to-business sales channels. Office 365 will be coupled with KNOX, Samsung’s mobile security platform.

A Word from Microsoft and Samsung

“Great things happen when you converge services and devices,” said Peggy Johnson, executive vice president of business development, Microsoft. “Our partnership with Samsung is emblematic of our efforts to bring the best of Microsoft’s productivity services to everyone, on every device – so people can be productive wherever, however and whenever they want.”

“Our goal is to meet the ever-evolving needs of both consumers and business customers and give them more power to discover new mobile experiences.” said SangChul Lee, executive vice president of the Strategic Marketing Office, IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics. “We believe our suite of premium mobile products coupled with Microsoft’s productivity services will offer users the mobility they need in both their personal and business life.”

Other Agreements

Microsoft expanded some other strategic agreements. 11 hardware partners from around the world, including Dell, Pegatron, TrekStor, JP Sa Couto, Datamatic, DEXP, Hipstreet, QMobile, Tecno, and Casper, will pre-install Microsoft’s Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive and Skype on their Android devices.
