The good news is that never again will you lose or misplace your beloved iPhone because Cupertino-based software developer Apple has released “Find My iPhone”, a feature that as the name so adequately points out, will quickly locate the device you lost. The feature will be available with the iPhone OS 3.0, which Apple recently announced it will be release on June 17th. The bad news is that the “Find My iPhone” feature will be available only to paying MobileMe customers.

Apple explains: “Now, if you lose your iPhone, MobileMe can help you find it. MobileMe includes a new feature called Find My iPhone. Just enable Find My iPhone in MobileMe settings on your phone.* Then you can log in to me.com from any computer to access Find My iPhone and display your phone’s approximate location on a map.”

To enable the Find My iPhone feature as described by Apple above, you need to access the following:
Settings -> Email -> Mobile -> Find My iPhone.
Then you will have to visit me.com and login -> from the sidebar choose Find My iPhone.

Here is how MobileMe’s Find My iPhone works
Scenario 1. When Find My iPhone tells you that your device is somewhere in the house, you can instruct your iPhone to play a sound. Then all you have to do is go scouring though your house in search of it.
Scenario 2. When Find My iPhone tells you that your device is at your friend’s Bob house because you carelessly left it behind after visiting him, you can write a message that will be displayed on the iPhone’s screen, something like “Be back to get my iPhone, Bob!” Please note that the message will be displayed even though the device is locked.
Scenario 3. You use Find My iPhone and thus realize that your iPhone is not misplaced or lost, it has been stolen. Since you do not want the thief to have access to your personal data, you can initiate another handy feature provided by MobileMe, mainly Remote Wipe. This will restore your iPhone to the factory settings, but if you somehow manage to recover your iPhone, you can always restore your email, contacts, and calendars.
