Opera Software released the 3rd Beta version of the Opera Mobile 10 browser to Symbian/S60 and Windows Mobile users all over the world. This release follows in the footsteps of Beta 2 and Beta 1 before it. With the release of the 3rd Beta, Opera Software touted the fact that the Windows Mobile 10 browser is moving “one step closer towards final.”

Opera Mobile 10 Beta 3 comes with the following improvements:
  • Added support for keypad devices running Windows Mobile 6 standard, and Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone devices.
  • Added experimental Flash support for Windows Mobile touch devices. Performance and usability varies according to how powerful the mobile device is.

“On the 1Ghz HTC Touch HD2 the overall experience is quite good. On anything slower it varies from mediocre to poor. For this reason we have disabled flash by default in the Opera Mobile settings. To enable flash go to Tools -> Settings -> Advanced and set plug-ins to "On". Note that Opera Mobile has Click-to-play functionality for plug-ins. So even when plug-ins are enabled you activate individual Flash content by clicking on it. This to minimize the use of bandwidth and CPU on content you may not be interested in,” explained Opera’s Dag Olav Norem.

The improvements mentioned above are on top of the features we’ve known about since the release of Opera Mobile 10 Beta 2:
  • Opera Link
  • Download manager
  • For touch devices, the user interface is more finger-friendly
  • Column snapping available for touch devices
  • The user can manage search engines
  • The browser now remembers page position and zoom state when moving in history
  • Better memory management
  • Fixed mobile view crash
  • Start page available from touch menu
  • Numerous minor bugs have been fixes
  • Clear cache setting
