Great news for European fans of the Linux Mint operating system: MintBox 2 is now available for purchase from Amazon UK and Amazon Germany.

The Linux Mint-powered mini-computer can be purchased from Amazon.de for €599 and from Amazon.co.uk for £499.

Back in June 2013 I was telling you that MintBox 2 is in the works. It was exciting news, because the new version came with more than 4 times the performance of the original MintBox – at roughly the same price.

Then in September 2013 I was glad to announce that MintBox 2 had been rolled out to the public. Linux Mint fans could get the mini-computer from CompuLab for $599. Lead Linux Mint Developer Clem Lefebvre said at the time that the sturdy, powerful, and portable device powered by Linux Mint will soon be available to US and European customers via Amazon.

It is March 2014 and I have some exciting news: Lefebvre recently announced that European customers can get MintBox 2 from Amazon.de for €599 and from Amazon.co.uk for £499.

That’s the good news – the bad news is that the devices are selling rapidly. At the time of writing this, there are no MintBox 2 devices available for sale on Amazon.co.uk. But don’t worry, more will be shipped by Compulab to Amazon.co.uk. You can wait for a new shipment to be delivered or you can order one from Amazon.de.

The MintBox 2 a mini-computer; it is roughly the size of a router, which means you can very conveniently carry it with you. It comes with 8USB ports, in/out audio jacks, eSATA, Ethernet, WiFi and Bluetooth. So hook it up to a monitor/TV, plug in some speakers, a mouse and a keyboard, and you have yourself a nice computer that you can use to browse the web, watch videos, listen to music, and so on.
