Turns out that Nintendo’s first foray into the smartphone apps world was a success. The company’s very first smartphone app, Miitomo, is now being used by more than 10 million people worldwide.

It managed to spark more than 300 million conversations since launch – March 17 in Japan and March 31 in the US and a few other countries.

That’s quite impressive, considering that the app was released about a month ago. But it’s not surprising. After all, the app was downloaded 1 million times in the first 3 days after it launched in Japan.

Now that Miitomo is a big success, Nintendo is looking to the future and planning to release 2 more mobile apps this fall.

We "look forward to an exciting period ahead with further growth in our mobile business, new products for our dedicated video game systems and continued progress in our efforts to increase the number of consumers experiencing our IP through games, licensing and expanded entertainment," said Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima.

Nintendo’s upcoming two mobile apps will be based on, drum rolls please, the familiar and beloved Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing franchises. The first one will be a bit more accessible than what we’ve come to expect from the Fire Emblem tactical role-playing video games. The second will be connected with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated gaming systems.

"Both of these are pure game applications," said Nintendo in a press release. “Compared to Miitomo, they have more prominent game elements, and the game content will tie closely into Nintendo’s dedicated games business. Nintendo will provide more details about these applications closer to their launch period, and aims to have multiple types of apps that appeal to different audiences and different groups of players.”

E3 2016 is coming up in June. Nintendo will attend this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, where it will unveil the latest installment in The Legend of Zelda franchise.

"At E3 this year, we’re treating people to an immersive Zelda experience," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. "By giving attendees extended hands-on time with this remarkable game, they’ll be able to get a much deeper understanding of something new for the franchise."

While it will be the focus on Nintendo’s presence at E3, the game itself needs more polish and will be released in 2017, when it will launch simultaneously for both Wii U and Nintendo’s next system, code-named NX.

NX will not make an appearance at E3 2016. Nintendo plans to unveil it later this year and launch it in March 2017.
