Office Remote, the app that has been available for Windows Phone since 2013, is now available for Android as well.

Go get it from Google Play and turn your Android into a remote for Office 2013. Use the app to remotely start a PowerPoint presentation, to navigate between Excel worksheets and graphs, to scroll through a Word document, and more.

Back in November 2013, I reported that Microsoft Research rolled out a new Windows Phone mobile app called Office Remote. The app, I said at the time, could be used to remotely control Office documents – Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents.

When you’re giving a presentation, you can use your mobile as a remote and conveniently interact with Office documents. This means you can use your mobile to start a PowerPoint presentation and advance the slides, to navigate between Excel worksheets and graphs, to scroll through a Word document, to jump to comments in a Word document, and even to control an on-screen laser pointer.

The news is that Office Remote is now available for Google’s Android mobile operating system too. The Office Remote app has recently been released to Google Play.

There are a few requirements you need to know about. Alongside the Office Remote app, you will need a few other things to remotely control Office documents from your mobile. You will need to have Office 2013 installed on your PC (Office 213 RT and earlier Office versions are not supported), you will need a Bluetooth connection to your PC, and you will need to install a desktop add-in on your PC.
