Microsoft Garage introduced Send, an “in-and-out email” app that was built for brief, snappy communications with your co-workers. It’s currently available for iOS, with Windows Phone and Android versions coming soon.

Yahoo recently rolled out Yahoo Livetext, a mobile app that combines texting with video. It’s a live video texting app for iOS and Android.

The Garage, Microsoft’s 24-hour idea factory and haven for über geeks, thought about this situation: you want to send a quick, short note to a co-worker, but you don’t have that co-worker’s phone number, you don’t have an IM app on your work phone, and you don’t want to use Outlook. To address this situation, Microsoft rolled out Send, a new app that was designed for “in-and-out email.”

Send – Main Features
  • Simple, quick text message-like experience so you can easily reach all your co-workers.
  • Send any co-worker a message without a subject line or formal email constructs; no signatures, subject lines or salutations required.
  • The app does not show all your emails, it only shows the ones started in the app.
  • Your conversations are synced with Outlook so you can continue the conversation from anywhere.
  • Works with Office 365 business and school email accounts; broader availability planned for the coming months.
  • Currently available for iPhone in the US and Canada; coming soon to Windows Phone and Android.

Yahoo recently introduced Livetext, a new mobile app that lets you see the people you’re texting. You can communicate with others via text and you can see the person you’re texting.

“We’re introducing Yahoo Livetext - a new way to communicate that blends the immediacy, simplicity and ease of texting with the expressiveness of video, without the audio. We see video as a way to make your conversations more authentic, and we see text as a way to connect that’s quick and non-intrusive. We think you’re really going to love it,” said Arjun Sethi, Senior Director, Product Management.
