While everyone is getting ready to say hello to the new Windows 10 operating system, Microsoft is getting ready to say goodbye to some of its other products.

The Photosynth app for iOS and Windows Phone is being retired and some MSN apps will be shut down this fall.

Photosynth Mobile App Is Officially Unsupported

Microsoft recently announced that Photosynth, the app that helps you create panoramas and share them with the world, is being retired.

“We are doing this because the new Photosynth Preview technology and its cloud processing is a more immersive way to capture a place than the spherical panoramas that our apps produce,” explained the Photosynth team, “If you use the Photosynth Windows Phone App or the Photosynth iOS App you can continue to use it, but it is now officially unsupported, and will not be maintained going forward. Both apps will be withdrawn from their respective stores.

Microsoft will continue to maintain Photosynth.net, the official Photosynth website. Users of the Photosynth mobile apps are encouraged to upload their panoramas to the aforementioned Photosynth.net. Uploaded panoramas can be kept unlisted, can be shared with the public, and can be viewed online at any time.

Multiple MSN Apps to Be Shut Down

Microsoft has a bunch of content aggregator apps that carry the MSN brand (in the past, they carried the Bing brand). These apps are: News, Weather, Sports, Money, Health & Fitness, Food & Drink and Travel. They’re available for Windows, Windows Phone, Android and iOS.

MSN Food & Drink, Health & Fitness, and Travel are going to be shut down.
News, Weather, Sports, and Money will live on.

“We regularly evaluate our business to ensure we’re focused on the areas where our users find the most value,” a Microsoft spokesperson said. “We will continue to support those apps with broad consumer appeal including News, Weather, Sports and Money, which will be made available as apps on Windows 10 and will remain cross platform.”

MSN Food & Drink and MSN Travel will be discontinued on September 28, 2015.
MSN Health & Fitness will be discontinued on November 1, 2015.

UPDATE, November 9, 2016

Microsoft announced that it will shut down the Photosynth.net website on February 6, 2017.
