A couple of days ago we were reporting on the release of the Google Search app for Windows Phone 7-powered mobile phones, the appropriately called app Bing for Windows Phone. The app allows Windows Phone 7 users to use Google’s search engine instead of Microsoft’s Bing search engine.

Microsoft has made an announcement yesterday that got my giggling: the Bing Mobile for Android app, the one that landed on Verizon phones back in September, has been released to all major US mobile operators. So if you have an Android-powered mobile device and you don’t like Google Search, you can use the Bing for Mobile app and use Microsoft’s search engine instead.

“Since the launch of the Bing for Mobile Android App in the Verizon Wireless Android Market, many of you asked when the Bing App will be available from your own operators. We are pleased to announce that we have just released the Bing App to all major U.S. mobile operators through Android Markets,” announced on behalf of the Bing for Mobile team, Andy Chu.

Here are some of the features you can expect to get form the Bing for Android app:
- Bing’s image of the day with clickable hotspots. If you missed one, you can view Bing’s image of the day for the past 7 days.
- The search feature (including image search) comes with endless scrolling results.
- Voice search feature that allows you to perform a search by speaking out the query.
“Our investment in voice search continues in our Android App and works great for searches like map locations as well as web search. This works especially well when looking for “Instant answers” which give you quick and relevant answers for things like movies, stock quotes, flight status and local listings,” explained Andy Chu.
- The app will automatically detect your current location and pin you on Bing Maps. From within Bing Maps you can search for nearby restaurants, theaters, businesses and other points of interest.

In related news, Android users may want to know that Opera Software has recently rolled out Opera Mobile 10.1 Beta for Android.
