This time last year we were reporting on the release of Seadragon, the first iPhone app developed by Redmond-based software giant. The Seadragon app, which comes free of charge, lets iPhone users seamlessly browse through large images (Giga range large images). Now Microsoft has rolled out its second iPhone app: Bing for iPhone. Just like Seadragon, this second app also comes free of charge.

“Bing on your mobile phone just keeps getting better. Today we are happy to announce the first official Bing App for iPhone and iPod touch. You can now download the free Bing App from your phone in the App Store, from your computer at iTunes, or go to m.bing.com and we will redirect you to the app store,” announced Group Product Manager with Bing Mobile, Justin Jed.

You may have used Bing on your desktop, which means you are familiar with the search engine – or as Microsoft likes to all Bing, it’s decision engine (because it goes beyond search by helping you make decisions). But you are definitely not familiar with the Bing iPhone app. Here is what the app brings to the table:
- Enhanced voice search
- Bing automatically finds your location and thus helps you discover stuff close by.
- Easily discover new locations by category (like theaters, banks, restaurants and so on).
- Smooth mapping action
- On the app’s home screen you will see the Bing image of the day (on the 14th it was a Firefox)
- Endless scrolling results for regular searches and for image searches.

And this is where Microsoft pulled the plug and said “There are a bunch of other features we’d love to tell you about, like movies, news and flight status. But rather than drone on about them, just download the app and give it a spin.”

If you would like to get Bing for iPhone, you can grab it from the App Store
