Microsoft Popfly: Get Your Games Now, while the Site is Still Running

Popfly, the Microsoft developed web site that lets you come up with your own sites, program snippets and mashups, will close its doors come August 24th. This fact becomes obvious when you visit the Popfly homepage and are greeted with the following message: “Thanks for stopping by. Unfortunately, on August 24th, 2009, the Popfly service will be discontinued, all resources will be taken down, and access to your Popfly account, including games and mashups, will cease.”

You might not be aware of this, but there are some interesting online games available on Popfly. There are in fact several games categories: action, adventure, platformer, puzzle, racing, shooter, fighting, sports, board, edicational, and other games – so in other words, there’s something for everyone. At least until August 24th when Popfly will be taken offline.

But if you fancy a game or two, you do not have to give up on them just because Microsoft decided to pull the plug on Popfly. Coding4Fun has released a tool called Popfly Game Downloader that, as the name so adequately suggests, downloads Popfly games onto your machine and lets you play them offline. You must of course download the game while the Popfly service is still running. Once you have downloaded the game onto your computer, you can play it whenever you want to – no internet connection required.

“With the announcement that the Popfly Game Creator will be shut down starting August 24th, we’ve published the Popfly Game Downloader, a utility to download Popfly games while the Popfly service is still running so you can play them even after the Popfly service is shut down! While it’s sad that one of our favorite Microsoft services is shutting down, we can at least take solace in the fact that Popfly users can download and play with their creations long after the Popfly service is shut down,” explained Coding4Fun.

A download location for Popfly Game Downloader and a detailed tutorial on how to use the tool is available here.
