Microsoft has rolled out yet another app for Apple’s iOS mobile operating system. This time, it is a free selfie app that’s unimaginatively called Microsoft Selfie. Leaving the name aside, the interesting thing about this app is that it can make your selfies look better. Nobody likes to look bad in a selfie, right?

Microsoft Selfie analyzes your portrait, taking various factors into consideration, such as age, gender, skin tone, and lighting. Once it’s done, it can automatically enhance your selfie. This means it can reduce noise and remove imperfections such as spots and blemishes. If that isn’t enough to make your selfie stand out, Microsoft Selfie provides easy access to several filters.

Microsoft Selfie doesn’t do very much. Consequently, it’s list of features and its official description on Apple’s App Store are quite short, as you can see below.

“Microsoft Selfie is a selfie and portrait enhancement application. The app takes age, gender, skin tone, lighting, and many other variables into account, applies different models automatically and finishes enhancement with just a single click. Users can transform average photos into more presentable portraits in seconds. Key features of this application are noise reduction, intelligent enhancement, automatic exposure and color theme.”

Microsoft Selfie – Main Features
  • Smoothen out your face (via a slider).
  • Reduce noise.
  • Automatically adjust the exposure.
  • Intelligent portrait enhancement.
  • Filters.
  • Save the selfie to your device (no option to share the selfie from within the app).

Microsoft Selfie is available for free on Apple’ App Store, and only on Apple’s App Store. It’s not, at least at the time of writing this, available on Google Play or on Microsoft’s Windows Store.

Don’t worry Windows Phone users, you have plenty of alternatives:
  • Lumia Selfie – take selfies with your phone’s front or main camera, automatically enhance it, and easily share it with others.
  • B612 – this app comes with a feature that lets you turn selfies into collages. And if you don’t know what filter to use, this app can randomly apply one.
  • 4shot – take photobooth-style selfies, apply various filters, textures and masks, add text messages to your selfies.
  • DualShot – take a photo of what your rear camera sees and combine it with what your front camera sees.
  • Voice Selfie – say the word “self” and this app will take a selfie.
  • SecretSelfie – give a friend your phone and this app will secretly snap some selfies.

Closing words

Microsoft Selfie is free, it is quite easy to use, it can automatically enhance your photos, and it provides easy access to some nice filters. If you’re an Android or Windows Phone user and you want to give it a try, you’re out of luck because Microsoft Selfie is available for iOS only.

Go get it from Apple's App Store here.
