Microsoft is showing students some love by throwing in a new Xbox if they purchase a new Windows 7-powered PC. And more to the point, if a student purchases a Windows 7 PC over $699, he or she will get a free Xbox 360 4GB console. The PC has to be purchased from participating retailers in the US (Best Buy and any Microsoft Store) starting from today the 23rd of May until the 3rd of September 2011 or until supplies last. So if you want a new Windows 7 PC and an Xbox 360, act fast.

Microsoft said that students can get any Windows 7-powered PC they want, but there are a few PCs the Redmond-based software giant recommends as ideal choices for students:

- HP Pavilion DM4, described by Microsoft as “a great entertainment system on the go".
- Dell Inspiron 14r, described as “a stylish powerful 14" PC”.
- Samsung Series 9, a PC that looks “looks like it is about to rocket off the runway.

Microsoft also advises students to use the PC Scout to find out what Windows 7 PC best suits their needs. The PC Scout is an interactive app that students can access by clicking here.

Students don’t have to go out and purchase a new Windows 7 PC, they can do that from the comfort of their own home – or dorm. Students who have an .edu email address can go to the Microsoft Store, or HP.com, or Dell.com and purchase a new PC online. They won’t have to go out to a store, purchase a new PC, and show their student IDs to prove they are students.

“A hot new Windows 7-based PC with a free Xbox 360 is the ultimate productivity, social and entertainment package for students,” said Kathleen Hall, general manager of Windows Marketing at Microsoft. “In one shot, with this great offer, Microsoft is giving students everything they need for a successful new school year.”
