Just like security companies Panda Security and F-Secure have done not too long ago, McAfee is using incredibly popular social networking site Facebook to offer users a free 6-month license for one of its products. And more to the point, you will be able to get a free 6-month license to use McAfee AntiVirus Plus, a security software solution described as “essential, award-winning PC protection for carefree computing”.

“McAfee AntiVirus Plus software, now available with revolutionary Active Protection technology, offers essential PC security with accelerated performance and helps keeps you safe online from viruses, spyware and hackers,” says McAfee’s description.


Here is what you have to do to get your free 6-month McAfee AntiVirus Plus license:

1. Go to McAfee’s Facebook page here and click the Like button. If you’re already a fan, just click the Get McAfee Security for Free image from the left hand corner. Please note that the instructions presented below are from the perspective of a user who just now liked McAfee’s Facebook site and is download McAfee products for the first time.

2. From the dropdown menu under Select your country to get started, select your country and then click the Get Yours Now button.

3. You will be asked to let the McAfee app access your account; click Allow. A McAfee account will be created and you will be asked to provide a password for that account. After typing it in, click the Submit button. Don’t forget the password as you will need it to install McAfee AntiVirus Plus.

4. You will be directed to your profile page on home.mcafee.com. There you will notice a red Download button. Click it to initiate the download of McAfee Antivirus Plus.

5. You will be presented with the EULA (End User License Agreement). Click I Agree to move on.

6. And now it’s finally time to download McAfee Antivirus Plus. You will be directed to a page with detailed instructions on how to save the antivirus. Just click Download and then Save File.

Once the download completes, all you have to do is install the antivirus on your system and enjoy its functionality free of charge for a 6-month period.
