Ever wanted to sit back in your comfortable chair, relax and have your Mac write down everything you speak? With the right kind of software, you can do just that: sit back, talk and let your Mac put down your words on virtual paper. Mac Speech Dictate, which has recently reached version 1.5, will come in handy when you need to write an article, put together a paper, or any other activity that requires you to do a lot of typing – it comes in handy because instead of typing, you only have to speak and the software writes down your words.

The software is not exactly cheap, as it comes with a price tag of $199, but with MacSpeech Dictation 1.5 you get enhanced accuracy, new vocabulary editor, new English profile options, and even the integration of the top 100 web pages on the internet to the “Jump to” command. The software works with Mac OS X 10.5.6 or higher versions, and if you already have previous versions of MacSpeech Dictate installed on your machine, then upgrading will only set you back $54.95.

One of the key areas of interest with MacSpeech Dictate 1.5 is accuracy. After all, you do want the software to seamlessly recognize your verbal input, now don’t you? According to the software’s developers, version 1.5 comes with a 20% boost in terms of accurate speech recognition. Since you can train the software to your own verbal patterns, you can increase its accuracy to about 99%. On top of that there are new profile options for Inland North American, Southern North American, and Latino North American accents.

“Since its introduction, MacSpeech Dictate provided Mac users with unprecedented accuracy, and we improved accuracy even further with version 1.5. MacSpeech Dictate 1.5 advances the state of the technology on the Mac with several important 'under the hood' changes, plus feature additions such as the vocabulary editor, improvements in compatibility with applications, and enhancements to the interface and documentation. We're extremely excited with the across-the-board progress made and thrilled to offer it as our first upgrade,” explained Founder and CEO of MacSpeech, Andrew Taylor.
