Mac Only: iPhone Dev Team Releases Updated Version of Pwnage Tool
Version 3.1.3 of PwnageTool for Mac OS X, the tool that one can use to jailbreak an iPhone, has been released to the waiting masses. Here’s the interesting part of this release: it provides support for iPhone OS 3.1 (on iPhone 3GS) and iPod Touch 2G. The previous version, mainly PwnageTool 3.0, did not work with the 2G iPod Touch or the iPhone 3GS
“The iPhone 3GS is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3, assuming the phone was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 - PwnageTool does not support the 3GS out of the box. If your iPhone 3GS has 3.1 preinstalled and is not Pwned then there is no tested jailbreak solution at the moment. The iPod 2G is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3, assuming the iPod 2G was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 - PwnageTool does not support the iPod 2G with 3.1 software out of the box,” explained the iPhone Dev Team.
Since there is not much else to say about the jailbreak tool, let’s switch focus to the Apple developed mobile device and the operating system it uses. The iPhone OS 3.1 was released last month and it came with the following new bits and pieces:
- Save video from Mail and MMS into Camera Roll. On a little side note, AT&T rolled out support for MMS late this September – initially it said it will do so “this summer”, but I suppose later is better than never.
- When trimming a video on the iPhone 3GS you have the option to “Save as new clip”.
- Paste phone numbers into the Keypad
- Anti-phishing features in Safari
- Improved Exchange calendar syncing and invitation handling
And just in case you are really behind on the iPhone OS news, here are the new features OS 3.0 brought to the table when it was released this summer:
- The option to cut, copy and paste
- Landscape mode for email, messages and notes
- MMS and tethering capability
- Enhanced Spotlight search that encompasses searching through your apps as well as your phone’s data
- Faster JavaScript
- P2P and 3rd party accessories support
- Push Notification.
- Downloadable movies and TV shows
- CalDAV support
- Voice memos
- YouTube login
- Find my iPhone for MobileMe users
- Shake the iPhone/iPod Touch and a new track will star playing (useful for when you get tired with a track)
- InApp purchases
- Parental Controls
- Stereo Bluetooth
- Automatic WiFi login
- Encrypt iPhone backups in iTunes.
- Turn-by-turn directions.
- Forward meetings invites and contacts
- HTTP streaming audio and video
- Enhanced language support
- Form AutoFill in Safari
