Turns out that a lot of people were waiting for Apple to release Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, the eight major release of the Mac OS X operating system. How many people you ask? According to figures presented by the Cupertino-based software developer, more than 1 million people were eagerly awaiting to get Lion from the Mac App Store.

Apple announced that in just a day after Lion became available for download in the Mac App Store, more than 1 million downloads were recorded. Must be mentioned here that the Mac OS X 10.7 Lion was rolled out to the Mac App Store on Wednesday, the 20th of July; it is priced at $29.99. Apple explained that Lion is the fastest selling operating system in Apple’s history.

“Lion is off to a great start, user reviews and industry reaction have been fantastic,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Lion is a huge step forward, it’s not only packed with innovative features but it’s incredibly easy for users to update their Macs to the best OS we’ve ever made.”

Lion comes with 250 new features, including the following:
- New Multi-Touch gestures and fluid animations.
- Mission Control gives you a bird’s eye view of every app and window running on your Mac by combining Expose, full screen apps, Dashboard and Spaces into one.
- The Mac App Store built-into the operating system.
- A completely redesigned Mail app.
- Resume is a new feature that brings your apps back exactly how you left them when you restart your Mac or quit and relaunch an app.
- Auto Save automatically and continuously saves your documents as you work.
- Versions automatically records the history of a document as you create it. It also gives you an easy way to browse, revert and copy and paste from previous versions.
- Automatic peer-to-peer (P2P) wireless connections are established with nearby Macs with AirDrop. Thus you can easily find, connect and share files with other Macs.

As mentioned above, Lion is available for purchase in the Mac App Store. The Mac App Store is available in 123 countries.
