Thanks to instant messaging (IM) software, it is now easier than ever to communicate, to socialize with people you hardly ever get to see face-to-face. Developers have realized that people like to communicate and consequently are making their IM client as compatible as possible. Yahoo! for example has recently put out Yahoo! Messenger 3.0 for Mac Beta 4, and if you thought that was enough IM capability for you, then you are wrong. The Yahoo! Messenger team has just come out with a plug-in that will add IM capability to your Mac Address Book.

“If you’re a Mac user that lives and dies by your Address Book, you’ll love this tool. One of our developers wrote a plug-in for the Mac Address Book application that lets you start a call on Yahoo! Messenger right from your friend’s contact card. Once the script is installed, you can right click on any contact’s phone number and you’ll see an option for “Call with Yahoo! Messenger”,” explains Product Manager with Yahoo! Messenger, Sarah Bacon.

There are of course a few steps to follow in order to activate this feature. Don’t worry, they are not at all complicated as you will notice from the detailed guide presented below:

- The first thing you need to do is download a zip archive that contains the plug-in mentioned above. A download location is available here.
- Locate the hard drive icon on your desktop -> double click it -> Library folder -> Address Book Plug-ins. (~/Library/Address Book Plug-Ins/)
- Place Yahoo! Messenger.scpt in the Address Book plug-ins folder (drag and drop will do just fine). Authenticate he installation if you are asked to do so.
- Restart the Address Book and enjoy the new right click functionality that allows you to call a contact via Yahoo! Messenger.

If you would like to get Yahoo! Messenger 3.0 Beta 4, a download location is available here.
