We’ve covered online services that locate restaurants and other dinning locations where you could ear for really low prices (details here), but the Locavore iPhone app is something is in a league of its own – it doesn’t just tell you where to find food, it also tells you which foods are in season and how to cook them. All you have to do is provide a location and it will display a list of in season foods, will lead you to the places where you can purchase said foods, and will even provide a Wikipedia and Epicurus recipe for the ingredients you select.

“Eating local food when it’s in season is an increasingly popular goal amongst people who are interested in eating the tastiest, healthiest food while also being good to the environment. Knowing what’s available in your area at a given time of year is often difficult to determine, so we’ve taken on the task of collecting data from a variety of sources and presenting it all in the most understandable of ways. The Locavore iPhone app will come in handy next time you’re at the market and want to know what’s actually being grown near you, and what is most likely to taste the best right now, explains Enjoymentland.

Here is a list of features you can expect to get after purchasing the Locavore iPhone app (costs about $3):
- Uses the iPhone’s built in GPS to automatically detect your location.
- Locates the food that is in season, according to your geographical location. Indicates which foods will be in season in the near future in that location.
- Indicates the farmer markets new you where you can purchase in season foods.
- If you crave a particular food, you can browse through a list of 234 fruits and vegetables and see where they are currently in season. You can also go though a list of the 50 US states and see what foods are in season.
- Wikipedia and Epicurus recipes links.

If all that eating finds you in an "inopportune situation", check out another handy iPhone app called SitOrSquat.
