Linux Trivia Game: Win a Linux 20th Memento

This year, 2011, is one of the most important years in Linux’s history and not just because the open-source operating system (OS) is celebrating its 20th anniversary. There are several other reasons, but more on that later on. Let’s stick with the fact that Linux is now 20 years old.

The news is that The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, is giving you the chance to win a 20th anniversary memento – but only if you show you’ve got Linux smarts. The Linux Foundation is running a Linux Trivia game and if you answer correctly to the questions the Foundation will ask, you could win a 20th Anniversary of Linux T-shirt.

The questions will be posted on The Linux Foundation’s Twitter, Identi.ca, Facebook, and Google+ channels. One question will be posted each week until the end of the year; that’s every Wednesday at about 11AM PT until the 28th of December, 2011. Those who provide a correct answer will be entered into a weekly draw. Each week The Linux Foundation will draw two winners and give them a 20th Anniversary of Linux T-shirt.

Speaking about answering the questions. Now, if you are a Linux fan, a big Linux fan that is, you shouldn’t have any problems with the questions. You will be able to answer them like it’s no thing. But not everyone is as big a Linux fan as you are. Those who don’t already know the answer to the questions can search for the answers on Linux.com and LinuxFoundation.org.

I mentioned at the start of this article that 2011 is one of the most important years in Linux’s history and not only because Linux is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Other important things happened in 2011:
  • The Linux kernel 3.0 was released, and the kernel.org site was breached.
  • Figures released by InMobi showed that Linux-based mobile OS Android surpassed Apple’s iOS.
  • IBM celebrated its centennial.
