Go get the latest Linux Mint Debian release, LMDE 201303, which was just recently rolled out to the public by the Linux Mint Team.

On Friday, March 22, the Linux Mint team was proud to announce the release of Linux Mint Debian (LDME) 201303 to all the users out there. The operating system, a semi-rolling distribution based on Debian Testing, is available as a 32-bit and as a 64-bit Live DVD – a MATE and a Cinnamon version, of course. Check out the original release announcement on the Linux Mint blog here and check out some download links for LMDE 201303 on the Linux Mint website here.

Before you go get LMDE 201303, perhaps you would like to know what new bits and pieces it has to offer. In the spirit of keeping things short, here’s a quick list of what’s new in LMDE 201303:
  • Update Pack 6
  • MATE 1.4
  • Cinnamon 1.6
  • Installer improvements (graphical timezone and keyboard selection, support for installation on multiple HDD, slideshow, webcam and face picture support)
  • Device Driver Manager
  • Plymouth splash screen.
LMDE is a rolling Linux Mint distribution based on Debian Testing. As the Linux Mint team explained, LDME aims to look the same as the main edition of Linux Mint and the goal is to provide the same functionality while using Debian as a base. LMDE is faster and more responsive than Ubuntu-based editions, and it constantly gets new versions of software and updates so that the users don’t have to reinstall the system. On the downside, it is not as user-friendly or as desktop-ready as Ubuntu and it is not as stable as a frozen version of Linux Mint (that’s because it receives updates and new software continuously). A deeper knowledge and experience with Linux, dpkg and APT is a must for those who want to use LMDE.
