The Linux Mint team announced on Friday that Linux Mint Debian (LMDE) 201109 has been released, bringing with it updated ISOs for Gnome and Xfce. The announcement follows the one from late August, when the Mint team announced the release of LMDE 201108 RC.

LMDE 201109 is available as a 32-bit as well as a 64-bit live DVD. If you would like to get LMDE 201109 Gnome or Xfce ISOs, you can grab them straight from Linux Mint here. Additional download links are available on the Linux Mint blog here.

Before you go get LMDE 201109, perhaps you would like to know what new bits and pieces it has to offer. In the spirit of keeping things short, here’s a quick list of what’s new in LMDE 201109:
- All the new bits and pieces Linux Mint 11 “Katya” has to offer, LMDE 201109 has them as well. If you’re not familiar with the new bits and pieces in Linux Mint 11, check out this article.
- Various installer improvements: keyboard variants, locale, bug fixes, UUID in fstab.
- Dedicated Update Manager, staged repositories, update packs.
- GTK2/GTK3 theme compatibility.
- Updated software and packages.

LMDE is a rolling Linux Mint distribution based on Debian Testing. As the Linux Mint team explained, LDME aims to look the same as the main edition of Linux Mint and the goal is to provide the same functionality while using Debian as a base. LMDE is faster and more responsive than Ubuntu-based editions, and it constantly gets new versions of software and updates so that the users don’t have to reinstall the system. On the downside, it is not as user-friendly or as desktop-ready as Ubuntu and it is not as stable as a frozen version of Linux Mint (that’s because it receives updates and new software continuously). A deeper knowledge and experience with Linux, dpkg and APT is a must for those who want to use LMDE.
