Linux Mint 7 KDE Final is Out and Available for Download

After announcing the release of the RC1 (Release Candidate 1) of Linux Mint 7 “Gloria” KDE (K Desktop Environment) at the start of July, the development team behind the Linux distro has announced that work on the operating system has finally come to an end. Consequently the final version of Linux Mint 7 KDE has been made available for download to users all over the world.

Lead Linux Mint Developer, Clem Lefebvre, announced the release: “The team is proud to announce the release of Linux Mint 7 ‘Gloria’ KDE. he KDE Community Edition aims to provide a version of Linux Mint which uses the KDE desktop. A minimum of 4GB of free space and 256MB RAM are needed. For a comfortable experience we recommended to have at least 512MB RAM and 10GB of free space.”

Linux Mint 7 KDE, a download that weighs in at 1.1GB for the LiveDVD, comes with the following highlights:
- Based on Kubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, Linux 2.6.28, KDE 4.2.4 and Xorg 7.4
- Uses the new KDE 4.2.4
- Amarok 2.1 comes bundled with the OS.
- Improved mintInstall, mintUpdate, mintUpload
- New mintWelcome screen (image right; right click -> view image for larger view).
- apt version command line.
- Firefox with support for Silverlight 1.x and the Moonlight plugin.
- Signed repositories.
- All Mint tools can be launched from the command line.
- All Mint tools with an “About” dialog show their version number.

Minimum system requirements for running Linux Mint 7 KDE:
Processor: 32-bit processor
RAM: at least 512MB
HDD: 10GB of free space is required for the installation process
Graphics card: VGA video card capable of 800x600 resolution (at least)
Other: DVD-ROM
