Lead Linux Mint developer Clem Lefebvre recently announced that the upcoming Linux Mint 14 operating system will carry the codename Nadia (pronounced NAH-d’-yah).

The codename for the upcoming Linux Mint 14 is no longer a secret. Clem Lefebvre has recently announced that Nadia will be the codename assigned to the Linux Mint 14 operating system. The Lead Linux Mint developer also announced that Nadia will be released to the public by the end of November, the current year.

“Nadia is pronounced NAH-d’-yah,” explained Lefebvre. “It is the English form of Nadya, which itself is the pet form of Nadezhda and is Russian for “hope”. It’s also a variant of Nadiyya which, in Arabic, means “moist, tender, delicate”.

Linux Mint 13’s codename is, as I’m sure you know and if you don’t I will just remind you, Maya. Lefebvre explained that the name was chosen after his daughter’s name. And his daughter’s name was chosen in reference to the Maya civilization, the character Maya Toitovna from Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars trilogy, and the German book, comic book series and animated television series “The Adventures of Maya the Bee.”

And by mentioning Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars trilogy we get to Linux Mint 14 and its codename. In the trilogy Nadezhda “Nadia” Chernyshevski is Maya’s best friend. The inspiration to call Linux Mint 14 Nadia came from the aforementioned trilogy.

As mentioned above, Linux Mint 14 codename Nadia will be rolled out to the masses by the end of November 2012. Clem Lefbvre explained that Linux Mint 14 will feature the following editions: Cinnamon, MATE, KDE, and Xfce.

To recap, Linux Mint 14 will carry the codename Nadia (pronounced NAH-d’-yah, inspired by Nadezhda “Nadia” Chernyshevski, Maya’s best friend in Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars trilogy) and will be released by the end of November, 2012.
