Good news for Linux Mint 10 fans who are waiting for the Linux Mint 10 KDE Edition. Lead Linux Mint Developer Clem Lefebvre announced that Linux Mint 10 KDE will hit Release Candidate (RC) status this week. So if you were anxiously awaiting Linux Mint 10 KDE, you will not have long to wait and get your hands on the operating system.

“Both 32-bit and 64-bit ISO images were approved. The Linux Mint 10 KDE Edition, featuring KDE 4.6, will be publicly available this week as an RC release,” said Lefebvre.

Last week it was the same Clem Lefebvre was announced that Linux Mint 10 KDE Edition, even though the 32-bit and 64-bit ISOs successfully passed testing, had to be scrapped. These builds featured KDE 4.5.5, but since KDE 4.6 is already out, releasing Linux Mint 10 KDE with KDE 4.5.5 just wouldn’t work. What would work would be to include KDE 4.6 into Linux mint 10 KDE.

“I know many people have been waiting for the KDE edition of Linux Mint 10 for a while now. This edition includes KDE 4.5.5 and both its 32-bit and 64-bit ISO were successfully tested about a week ago. After a discussion with Boo, we decided to upgrade KDE to the recently released 4.6 version. Because of the importance of this upgrade, the current ISOs are being rejected and the release will have to go through another cycle of testing again,” said Lefebvre last week.

In related Release Candidate news, Linux Mint 10 ‘Julia’ (which was named after Gens Julia, one of Ancient Rome’s most ancient Patrician families and the gens of the famous Gaius Julius Caesar) shed its Release Candidate tag back in November.
