Close to 90 people submitted their designs as part of the annual Linux Foundation T-Shirt Design Contest, now in its 3rd edition. Out of them all the 5 people you can see in the image above were picked as the finalists by The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to the growth of Linux.
From left to right, the 5 finalists in the image are: Carmen Andoh from New York, USA; Sabrina Aqil from Cascina, Italy; Brian Beck from Texas, USA; Ieva Griskaite from Vilnius, Lithuania; and Arkady Zaifman from Tel Aviv, Israel.
Here’s a quick look at the designs these 5 finalists submitted.
Carmen Andoh – Tux Mosaic
Design description: “Linux is massive collaboration for the greater good. Mosaic of Tux made with Distro Logos."
Sabrina Aqil – Freedom Lifts US Up
Design description: “The design highlights the benefits coming off the freedom that Linux brings to us, opposite to the obstacles put by closed software and patents that slow down our progress towards a better society.”
Brian Beck – Inspired by Linux Arrow
Design description: “From afar, the viewer sees an arrow pointing up at the person wearing the shirt, showing “ 'This person' is Inspired by Linux” …. upon closer inspection of the shirt, it shows....”Because Why!”
Ieva Griskaite – Together Up
Design description: “This design is about friendship, community, team work, sunshine and going up - reaching the top. It could be named Together UP! or UP Together!”
Arkady Zaifman – Power to the Penguins
Design description: “For me Linux is all about the freedom to create, well anything, and with the power of its community we are free today to create amazing things and cause its open source those things happen in speed unheard of before... FREEDOM ;D "
The community’s votes will determine who will win the 2012 Linux Foundation T-Shirt Design Contest. Two prizes will be awarded as part of the competition:

The community’s votes will determine who will win the 2012 Linux Foundation T-Shirt Design Contest. Two prizes will be awarded as part of the competition:
- 1st place - $2,000 for airfare, hotel and admission to a LinuxCon event of the winner’s choice. The events the winner can choose from are LinuxCon North America (San Diego, Aug. 26 - 29, 2012) and LinuxCon Europe (Barcelona, Nov. 5-7, 2012)
- 2nd place - $1,000 for attending either LinuxCon North America or LinuxCon Europe.
