On the 11th and 12th of October, the first ever Korea Linux Forum will take place in Seoul at the JW Marriot, announced on Tuesday The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux. Linus Torvalds, the creator of the Linux operating system will be there to attend the event, event that is meant to bring together Korean businesses, developers and the Linux kernel community and is meant to increase Linux development and collaboration in Korea and the Asia region.

“Korea is a hotbed of new Linux development, especially in the mobile and embedded areas,” said Jim Zemlin, executive director, The Linux Foundation. “The Korea Linux Forum will help bridge the amazing work being done in the country with the global Linux community, resulting in technical advancements for Linux and that impact the entire ecosystem. We are pleased to work with our member Samsung on this event and other activities to hopefully tap into the developer talent pool in Korea.”

Back in June we reported that Samsung, the multinational conglomerate company behind the Galaxy S3 and other electronic devices, decided to support The Linux Foundation at the highest level – Samsung joined The Linux Foundation at the Platinum level, which is the highest level of support (there are three classes of corporate membership: Platinum, Gold, and Silver). The abovementioned Korea Linux Forum is held in collaboration with Samsung, The Internet Foundation’s newest platinum member.

And speaking about Samsung, Samsung’s Head of Software R&D Center KiHo Kim is among the keynote speakers for the Korea Linux Forum. The event will also feature keynotes from Linux kernel maintainer Greg Kroah-Hartman, Google’s Tejun Heo, Intel’s Chief Linux and Open Source Technologist Dirk Hohndel and Linux creator Linus Torvalds.
