Legitimate Google Searches that will Get You All Hot and Bothered

In the aftermath of Mozilla implementing the Private Browsing feature in its Firefox 3.1 Beta browser, we would like to present you with a short list of innocent enough queries that will yield unexpected results when you Google them. The thing with Mozilla’s private mode is that you are expected to browse a certain kind of sites when using it – no wonder it is affectionately called “porn mode” within the Firefox crowd. But when you Google search the words presented below, you are by no means looking for adult content, let alone have them show up on the very first results page.

There are two conditions that must be respected before you get into it. First of all, you must go to the Google Image Search page and you must turn off the SafeSearch Filtering feature (you can do so by clicking on the Preferences tab and then selecting the “Do not filter my search results” option). I know that the filter is put there to, well, filter – but the words are so innocent that they should not need any sort of filtering.

The second condition that you must respect is this: do not do this at work, or in any other place for that matter that could get you in trouble. Most of the image results are legitimate, but some are adult oriented!

The first word that you cold Google image search is “The Great Outdoors” (as in the 1988 movie starring Dan Aykroyd and the late John Candy). On the very first results page you will notice three adult site-related results, and a rather raunchy add from Budweiser (image that will show up even with the safe filter turned on). The second and fourth results page is adult content-free, with just one inappropriate picture showing up on page three.

Do you remember the popular animated TV series “Inspector Gadget”? I know I used to watch it as a kid and found it very entertaining at the time. As an adult, you might want to get your kid a poster of the cyborg-like detective from the 80s. Just as expected, some rather disturbing pictures will slip into the first results page when you turn the filter off.

Here are a few other innocent words that you could try Google image searching with the filter on and off: eat, small/big, sunny and lord. And if you really want to get raunchy, try googling the word “nun” and see what pops up.
