Duolingo recently announced that it will add support for a new language. You’ll soon be able to use Duolingo to learn, drum rolls please, Klingon.

buy' ngop! That’s how you say “that’s great news” in Klingon.

As I’m sure you already know, you can use the Duolingo app to learn a new language. You can use it to learn Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Irish, Danish, Swedish, or Turkish.

Duolingo will add a new language to the list presented above – Klingon. That’s right, Duolingo decided to add support for Klingon, the constructed language that has never been spoken outside of Star Trek fandom.

Via its social channels, Facebook and Twitter, Duolingo announced that “you’ll soon be 1 warp closer to Kronos” because a Klingon language course is “coming soon”. Duolingo didn’t say when the new course will be available. But, if you visit this webpage, you can sign up to be notified.

The webpage mentioned above quickly presents the Klingon language. It explains that it is a constructed language created by Marc Okrand, that it is the language spoken by the fictional extraterrestrial Klingon species in the Star Trek universe, that the language is centered around spacecraft, warfare, and weaponry, and that the language expresses the directness of the Klingon species.

Lots of people know how to speak French, German, Spanish or any of the other languages supported by Duolingo. How many can speak Klingon? Not that many! The mastery of Klingon is extremely uncommon among humans, but Duolingo aims to change that.

In related news, I have to remind you that Duolingo was Google Play’s most downloaded education app for 2014.

Duolingo is a free mobile app. It is available for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.
