As I’m sure you already know, the free Kaspersky Security Scan (KSS) application can be used to check your PC’s security status. KSS will use the latest antivirus databases to scan for malware and other threats, like operating system settings that make your PC vulnerable.

Security company Kaspersky Lab just announced that the latest version of Kaspersky Security Scan does a bit more than that: it now gives useful advice on how to resolve issues identified during the scan. So not only does it uncover threats, it also provides advice on how to address these threats.

Kaspersky Security Scan – Main Features
  • Plays nice with most antivirus software – you can install KSS alongside other antivirus applications. Little time and effort will go into installing KSS on a Windows PC.
  • Scans for threats – KSS will scan your PC for malware and software vulnerabilities. You can manually initiate a scan or you can let KSS automatically run scans based on a schedule.
  • Provides useful advice – the latest KSS release provides advice on how to remedy security problems that have been detected during the scan.
  • It's free – KSS is a free Kaspersky Lab product.

“It is important to remember that although free solutions are undoubtedly useful, they cannot replace Internet Security-class protection, because for a long time now the techniques used by cybercriminals have encompassed more than just malware,” said Vladimir Zapolyansky, Vice-President, Product and Technology Marketing, Kaspersky Lab.

“The scanner can quickly scan the computer for potential risks when there are no other options, or it can complement an existing antivirus solution to strengthen security. However, in all other cases an integrated, multi-tier security solution should be used on a permanent basis,” Zapolyansky added.
