Latest Defraggler Version Adds Drive Health Information

Earlier this week Piriform, the privately owned UK software developer dedicated to creating top quality applications for Windows, announced that it updated its defragmenting application Defraggler to version 2.07. This latest version has several new bits and pieces to offer.

It comes with better detection of SSD drives, better uninstallation of shell commands, better stability on the Microsoft-developed Windows 7 operating system (more than 450 million Windows 7 licenses have been sold so far, as a little side note), a better scheduler when the computer is idle, and it added support for a new language, mainly Macedonian.

The most interesting thing the latest version of Defraggler brings to the table is disk health info. Or to put it in other words, Defraggler 2.07 can read the disk’s SMART information and tell you how healthy the disk is.

“How healthy are your hard drives? Most disks maintain information about their health and reliability. Defraggler now displays this (SMART) information for you, providing warnings if there's a problem and ensuring the speed and reliability of your system,” said Piriform’s announcement that Defraggler 2.07 has been released to the public.

If you would like to get Defraggler v. 2.07, you can grab it straight from Piriform here.

If you are not familiar with the application and you don’t know if you should get it or not, let me put things in perspective. Defragmenting your hard drive is one of the tasks you have to perform if you want your computer to run smoothly and efficiently. When data becomes fragmented, the pieces of a file become scattered and broken up; the defragmentation process rearranges all this data so that all parts of a file are grouped closed together, contiguously. Defraggler is Piriform’s defragmenting application. It is offered free of charge, it is efficient and does its job rapidly, it is to my mind superior to the default defragmenting application Windows has to offer.
