After increasing RVR (realm versus realm) combat experience points a while back, the Warhammer Online team now tries to bring the joy of the winter holidays to the MMO game by launching Keg End, the Dwarf New Year’s festival. The last time we saw celebrations influence the online gaming world was on Halloween, when zombie infestation hit World of Warcraft as well as GTA IV.

“The wheel of the seasons has turned, ushering out the sun's last warmth with bitter blasts of northern winds. As snow creeps down to block mountain passes and lock the Warhammer world in the icy talons of winter, the citizens of the Old World raise their mugs high; the time of Keg End is at hand. In an epic celebration fraught with boasting, toasting, and epic fireworks, the Dwarfs clear out their stores of ales, beers and other intoxicating beverages in order to bring luck in the New Year and make way for a stock of better, stronger brews,” says the War Herald.

The Ked End has kicked off yesterday, the 17th of December, and will run until 2009, ending on the 5th of January. During all this time you can expect to find all sorts of festive monsters, items, events, and winter holiday oriented challenges – and plenty of beer to go around, since there are three things that make any dwarf’s heart go all mushy: beer, explosions, and boasting (while having a cold brew of course).

There are three types of rewards you can expect to get: basic, advanced and elite. A basic reward implies you getting “The Drunken” title; an advance reward means that you got your dwarf hands on the Legendary Golden Stein which features a “damage boosting aura of Frothy Goodness”; an elite reward will return you to the City Pub (The Last Call Keg).
