Internationally renowned security company Kaspersky Lab published some intriguing predictions for the year 2045. Why 2045 and not something that is a bit closer? Because 2045 is 30 years into the future.

You see, the personal computer (PC) made its way into regular use some three decades ago. And since the PC became a part of regular life, things changed dramatically. If technology changed our lives so much in the past 30 years, can you imagine how it will impact our lives 30 years from now? The guys at Kaspersky Lab thought about it and this is what they came up with.

Kaspersky Lab’s Predictions for 2015
  • Routine work is for robots – there will be billions of robots that will do the heavy, routine labor. There will be billions of humans too; they will be working on the software that powers these robots.
  • PCs will be museum pieces – the PC, the device that changed our lives so dramatically, will be replaced with other smart devices or gadgets.
  • Fast, cheap 3D printing – 3D printers will create anything we need.
  • Blurred boundaries between robots & humans – lots of technology will be part of the human body. Electronically controlled artificial organs and prosthesis will be commonplace, nanorobots will be used to performed surgeries, special sensors will be used to monitor our health.
  • Fully automated smart homes – all we have to do is make sure we have enough money to pay the bills; the house will take care of all the rest.
  • Hyper intelligence – I didn’t quite get this one, so I’m going to quote Kaspersky Lab: “Our digital alter egos will finally be fully formed within a single global infrastructure capable of self-regulation and involved in managing life on the planet.”
  • Technophobia – we have technophobes today and we’ll still have technophobes 30 years from now.
The predictions presented above came accompanied by this cool image.

“The current rate of development in IT makes it difficult to deliver precise predictions about where we will be in a few decades. However, it is clear that every year our technologies will get even smarter and the people who work with them will need to keep up. We can certainly be sure that cybercriminals will continue to make every effort to exploit any new IT advances for their own malicious purposes,” said Alexander Gostev, Chief Security Expert at Kaspersky Lab. “But whatever our world looks like in 30 years, we should start improving its comfort, safety and well-being now. Technology is just a tool, and it is entirely up to us whether we use it for good or for evil."
