June Deep Zoom Composer Preview Released
Microsoft has rolled out the June 2009 preview version of Deep Zoom Composer for Silverlight. This release was brought on by user feedback as Microsoft has asked the community what would make Deep Zoom Composer better. Consequently the preview release of Deep Zoom Composer that has been made available for download comes with plenty of new feature – feature that users have asked for.
The truth of the matter is that we are not aware of all the new features that have been added to Deep Zoom Composer, but here is what we do know. The tool now provides better memory usage, meaning that it uses significantly less memory than it used to. Then we know that Deep Zoom Composer comes with navigation support, meaning that you can navigate between images and areas of images in a web-like or hyperlink-like manner. It also means that you can link images to external URLS.
We also know that Deep Zoom Composer comes with first draft of updated collection exporting, allowing you to import images, tag them from the image list in the Compose view, select a pre-defined template and then export. You can do all this with no need to place the image on the design interface first. Last but not least, we also know that Deep Zoom Composer provides reporting functionality to advertisers (this way they can see which images get the most attention).
Recommended system requirements for running Deep Zoom Composer
Operating System: XP SP2, Windows Vista.
Processor: 2GHz Intel Pentium or AMD.
RAM: 1GB
Graphics: Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0–capable video card with 256 MB or more of memory.
About Deep Zoom Composer
Since Silverlight 2.0 was launched, Microsoft added a new feature to Silverlight 2.0 called Deep Zoom. This Seadragon implementation is used to seamlessly browse through large image collections and zoom in/out high resolution images in a speedy and uninterrupted manner. Deep Zoom Composer is nothing more than a tool one can use to prepare content that will be used with the Deep Zoom Feature in Silverlight.
“We are pleased to present a technology preview of Deep Zoom Composer, a tool to allow the preparation of images for use with the Deep Zoom feature currently being previewed in Silverlight 2. The new Deep Zoom technology in Silverlight allows users to see images on the Web like they never have before. The smooth in-place zooming and panning that Deep Zoom allows is a true advancement and raises the bar on what image viewing should be. High resolution images need to be prepared for use with Deep Zoom and this tool allows the user to create Deep Zoom composition files that control the zooming experience and then export all the necessary files for deployment with Silverlight 2.”
