Rovio Mobile, the developer behind the immensely popular Angry Birds game, and Nokia, company that I am sure needs no introduction, were host to the first ever Angry Birds Finnish Championship. It was a 3-week event that drew in more than 2600 people from all over Finland eager to take part in the championship.

After the qualifiers and some battling, only 32 were left out of the initial 2600. A winner had to be selected, so the 32 finalists battled it out. The one to come out on top, the one to beat all the other finalists was 19-year-old Jonas Koivula. He beat everyone else and became the first Finnish Champion of Angry Birds.

Besides bragging rights, Jonas Koivula got a brand new Nokia N8 that features a 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash, HD-quality video recording, film editing software and Dolby surround. He also won a trip for two to Hollywood to attend the premiere of the Rio movie (on which Angry Birds Rio is based) and visit Fox Studios while in LA.

Jonas Koivula had this to say about his win:
“I’ve been studying hard for school for the last months, and playing Angry Birds has been a great way of relaxing. I participated in the competition just to try my luck, and was a bit surprised to reach the finals. It feels amazing to have won, it was really exciting to play against all these tough opponents! Prizes were also great, and I will travel to Hollywood together with my girlfriend, who also loves the game.”

The abovementioned Angry Birds Rio game which was released earlier this month, features 60 levels of bird flinging fun. In the game the birds are kidnapped and taken to Rio, but they manage to escape their captors and then set out to save Blue and Jewel, the protagonists of the Rio movie which will be released on the 15th of April in the US.
