Here are the bits you may already be aware of. You may already know that 2011 marks the 20th anniversary of the open-source Linux operating system. You may already know that The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, is doing quite a bit to celebrate the occasion. And you may already know that several top figures from the Linux world will attend LinuxCon 2011 in Vancouver this August.

Here’s the part that you may now know. Red Hat CEO Jim Whitehurst has never met Linus Torvalds. He will get the chance to meet Linus at the abovementioned LinuxCon 2011. In an interview for The Linux Foundation, he said that he’s quite excited about it. When asked who he hopes to meet at the LinuxCon Gala, the official celebration of the 20th anniversary of Linux, Jin Whitehurst had this to say:

“I want to meet Linus. Believe it or not, we haven't had the opportunity to meet yet. He's an extraordinary individual, and I'm hoping to get some time with him.”

In the interview, Jim Whitehurst answers a few other questions. He talks about his view on Linux’s future, he talks about how customer requirements and expectations are changing with regards to Linux, he talks about the most important challenge for Linux in the enterprise, and he talks about Red Hat’s success. You can check out the interview here.

The abovementioned LinuxCon 2011 will take place between the 17th and 19th of August. Apart from Linus Torvalds and Jim Whitehurst, Linux Foundation Executive Director Jim Zemlin and Ubuntu’s Technical Architect Allison Randal will attend the event. The best and brightest that the Linux community has to offer will be in Vancouver this August.

In related news, if you would like to find out if you can do Linus Torvalds’ job, all you have to do is take a Facebook quiz. Once you’re done with the quiz you will get a custom badge (I got one that says I’m a Linus stalker) and you will get a 25% discount to attend LinuxCon and the 20th Anniversary LinuxCon Gala.
