Jailbreak the iPhone OS 2.2.1 with PwnageTool and QuickPwn 2.2.5 for Mac
After Apple released the 2.2.1 update of the iPhone OS, the crafty people from the iPhone Dev Team have promptly responded by advising users not to update until they can properly investigate the matter and determine what impact the updated operating system will have on jailbreaking/unlocking the iPhone.
The thing is that OS 2.2.1 brought only minor changes to the table (Camera Roll display problems and Safari stability issues) and even the unexpected fix to outgoing text messages (no more annoying error message) did not make a convincing case in front of iPhone jailbreakers and even regular iPhone users. Now that the Dev Team has updated their QuickPwn and PwnageTool you can update safe in the knowledge that you will ebe able to jailbreak or unlock the device.
You cannot just go into such an endeavor if you lack the technological skill to pull it off. The Dev Team issued a warning to all would be jailbreakers out there, which you would better abide to unless you want to turn your iPhone into a very expensive paperweight. The lowdown is this: you can jailbreak the iPhone as long as you do not update to OS 2.2.1 via iTunes, you have a Mac and the updated Mac OS X 10.5.6 does not cause a DFU bug.
Why the must “have a Mac” condition? It has nothing to do with Microsoft and the Windows-based operating system. It is just that the Dev Team only released PwnageTool and QuickPwn 2.2.5 for Mac; a Windows version is still in the works and is expected to drop in the near future. In the mean time you can occupy your time with other things, like exploring the surface of Mars, which is now an option with Google Earth 5.0. Or, since you are using Windows, you might want to find out what Bill Gates has been up to since he si no longer actively involved with Microsoft.
