Ireland Theme for Windows 7: There's a Slight Annoyance

Tomorrow is the 17th of March and we will be celebrating St Patrick’s Day. In a previous article I was telling you that in preparation for this joyous occasion, you cold decorate your Windows 7-powered PC with a very green theme – the Ireland theme.

The nice thing about this theme is that it comes with 17 top quality images that depict the beauty of Ireland. The even nicer thing is that the theme, which is offered free of charge by Microsoft, comes with a unique sound-scheme based on traditional Celtic music.

Jennifer Shepherd, site manager for the Windows Personalization Gallery, explained that to come up with this theme, Microsoft brought in Tom Creegan, member of the Irish trio Crumac who has been playing the uileann pipes for more than 30 years, and Jan Strolle, who has been playing the fiddle for some 20 years now. During all this time Strolle’s been a part of several Celtic bands, like Keltoi, Western Shore and Barking Monkey, a Celtic-rock group.

The sound-scheme is great – I like it a lot. What I don’t like is that every time I shutdown my Windows 7-powered computer, the shutdown sound is so long that the force shutdown screen shows up. Taking a glance at the screen, I noticed the force shutdown screen showed up because the music was still playing in the background. But my significant other – yes, I also installed the theme on her PC as well – panicked the first time she saw it. She assumed that she forgot to close some application or that something went wrong.

I realize it isn’t a major inconvenience, but it could be enough to get some people to give up on the theme. Or give up on the theme’s sound-scheme. And that would be a shame.

Here’s a preview of the Ireland theme for Windows 7. Click the image to go to the Personalization Gallery and download it.
