Introducing the Native uTorrent App for Android Devices

Great news for the millions of Android users out there: the first native uTorrent app has been rolled out as a Beta to the Play Store.

BitTorrent, the company that develops and maintains the BitTorrent protocol as well as the BitTorrent and the uTorrent software applications, made an interesting announcement earlier this week: the company announced the release of a native uTorrent app for Android-powered devices. Or to put it in other words, BitTorrent released the uTorrent Beta app for Android to the Google Play Store. Use the application to find and download torrents to your Android-powered smartphone, play content, subscribe to RSS feeds, and more.

uTorrent Beta for Android has the following features to offer (as described by the BitTorrent team):
  • Fast, easy on-the-go downloading of torrents.
  • No speed or size caps on downloads (mobile data limits still apply)
  • RSS subscriptions
  • Instant access to our growing library of featured content.
uTorrent Beta for Android follows in the footsteps of the uTorrent Remote app that was released to the public back in 2011. After the release of uTorrent Remote, an Android app that lets you control uTorrent downloads on your computer from your smartphone, many users demanded a full-featured uTorrent client. BitTorrent explained that among the great feedback it got from the users, the most popular question sounded something along the lines of “When will a fully featured uTorrent Client be available for Android?”

Seeing that the community wants a native uTorrent client for Android, BitTorrent’s engineers went to work – after working hard for the past few months, they came up with uTorrent Beta for Android.

“For the past few months our engineers have been hard at work developing a mobile BitTorrent app that is worthy of the name µTorrent,” explained the BitTorrent team. “In order to live up to our high standards, we knew that the app would need to be fast, lightweight, powerful and better than anything else currently on the market. After months of hard work (and copious amounts of coffee) we are proud to release µTorrent Beta for Android to the Google Play Store.”
