Intego, company that specializes in providing security solutions for Mac, announced earlier this week that its malware scanner for iOS, the VirusBarrier iOS app, is on sale to celebrate the launch of iOS 5, which is described by Apple the “world’s most advanced mobile operating system”. What Intego did not say is until when the app will be on sale. It only said that the sale won’t last long and that you should hurry and get it on the cheap while you can.

So if you want to take advantage of the sale and get VirusBarrier iOS for 99 cents instead of its regular price of $2.99, get it from the App Store here. You will get a 12-month subscription for less than one dollar. That is quite a deal if you ask me.

The VirusBarrier iOS app, which is based on the award-winning antimalware tool for Mac OS X VirusBarrier X6, was released to the public this summer. It is a security app that scans files and can detect spyware, Trojans, adware, hacker tools, dialers, keyloggers, and other security threats that could impact Mac, Windows or Unix systems. This includes files received via email, archives, files downloaded from Safari, files accessed by apps that support inter-app file transfers (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDFs, HTML files, JavaScript files, EXE files, .dll files, and so on), files stored on remote locations (Dropbox, iDisks and WebDav disks), and files stored on iOS devices.

For now VirusBarrier iOS can only perform on-demand scans. The app, as Intego explained, cannot perform automatic or scheduled scans because of the secure design of iOS. On the upside, the on-demand scans are run in the background so they aren’t much of an inconvenience. Another upside is that the app can automatically update itself.
