Security company Intego recently updated its Washing Machine tool to version 10.8.4. This updated version comes with stability improvements and bug fixes – as expected. The updated version also comes with new features for the Duplicate Cycle, the function that lets you find and remove duplicates from your PC. Here’s a quick look at these new features.

Washing Machine Update – New Features for the Duplicate Cycle
  • Sorting – duplicates can be sorted by name, count, type, size, selected, and extension.
  • Auto Select Options – additional auto select options let you keep shortest/longest file path or keep original files.
  • Quick Look – this function lets you preview files and thus verify if they are duplicates or not.
  • Show in Finder – view duplicate files in the Finder window and thus see precisely where the files are located. This will help you decide which file to keep and which to delete.
  • Support for more files – even more file types are included in the scan. This includes spreadsheets (.XLSB, .XLSM, .XLSX, .NUMBERS, .ODS), presentations (.PPT, .PPTX, .KEY, .KEYNOTE, .ODP), and documents (.TXT, .DOC, .DOCX, .ODT, .PAGES, .RTF).
  • Move to Trash – instead of deleting duplicates, you can move them to the trash. This way, if you need a file, you can recover it from the trash.
Based on Washing Machine’s Duplicate Cycle, Intego came up with a new tool called Duplicate Zapper. As expected, this is a tool that scans your Mac, identifies duplicates, and then removes said duplicates.
