Intego Rolls Out VirusBarrier X5 10.5.8 Update

Intego, company that specializes in providing security solutions for Macs, has recently put out an update to its VirusBarrier X5. The update, VirusBarrier X5 version 10.5.8, comes with improved performance for many of the software’s functions, enhanced program logs, and several other changes that we’ll get into momentarily.

Before we present the new bits and pieces you can expect to get from VirusBarrier X5 10.5.8, here is a little insight into how efficient Intego’s security solutions really are. Besides getting plenty of positive press coverage from the Mac-oriented media, one of Intego’s products has been nominated for the Macworld UK Awards. The awards ceremony will be held on the 18th of June, 2009, and ContentBarrier X5 has been nominated in the “Education Product of the Year” category (details here).

Getting back to VirusBarrier X5, here are the changes that Intego made with version 10.5.8:
- Enhanced log recording: start and stop of real-time scanner, virus definition updates, and cancelled archive scans
- You can copy log entries to the clipboard, and you can delete individual log entries.
- Logged items can be revealed to the user by simply clicking a toolbar button in the log window.
- There are now 4 classes of malware logs: Virus, Backdoor, Trojan and Exploit
- Logs can be filtered according to their type: Information, Warnings, and Threats
- The number of Windows malware that VirusBarrier detects has increased.
- Behavioral analysis of MS Word and MS Excel macro viruses has been improved.
- Several bugs have been addressed.
- VirusBarrier X5’s performance has been enhanced.

The VirusBarrier X5 10.5.8 update will be offered for free to current Intego customers via the NetUpdate automatic update tool.
