Shazam for iPhone made its debut way back in 2008. The app’s capability to recognize music quickly made it very, very popular. It is now used by millions of people around the world to identify billions of songs.

Shazam for Mac made its debut just a few days ago. Last week, the Shazam for Mac app was rolled out the Mac App Store. So the next time you need to identify some music, you don’t need to get your phone out – you can use your Mac instead!

There are some apps that you just have to have – Shazam is one of those apps. The app’s music recognition capabilities make it indispensable. Say you’re at a restaurant with friends, enjoying a cold drink and a nice meal, when a cool song starts to play in the background. Shazam will listen to the song, tell you who’s playing it, and hook you up with links to watch videos on YouTube, listen to full tracks on Spotify, and more.

Shazam is available for multiple mobile devices: BlackBerry, Nokia, Windows Phone, Android and iPhone. Focusing on Apple’s iPhone, it must be mentioned that the iPhone version has been around for more than 6 years now. People keeping track of these things will remember that Shazam for iPhone made its debut in July 2008.

As of July 2014, Shazam is also available for Mac. On the 31st of July, the Shazam for Mac app was rolled out to the Mac App Store.

"Shazam on mobile instantaneously answers fans' questions about what's playing around them, at the touch of a button. The magic of Shazam for Mac, is that it anticipates and answers these questions before they're even asked,” said Shazam Chief Product Officer Daniel Danker.
